I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Gran Teatre del Liceu

We will go to the Gran Teatre del Liceu to see I Capuleti e i Montecchi, an opera by Vincenzo Bellini inspired by the story of two rival families and two young people in love.

This story is best known through Romeo and Juliet, the play by William Shakespeare. You may not know Shakespeare, but the idea is very simple and universal: two people love each other, but the conflict between their families makes that love very difficult.

Opera can feel distant if we have never been before, but it is a form of theatre where the story is told through music, singing, stage design and a live orchestra. You do not need to understand everything to enjoy it: it can also be experienced through emotions, voices, images and the atmosphere of the theatre.

It is a good first experience to approach opera: intense music, strong emotions and a story about love, violence, family and destiny.

You do not need to have been to the opera before. We will go together, as a shared cultural outing.
