The Phantom of the Opera

*The Phantom of the Opera* is the most successful musical of all time, created by the celebrated composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on Gaston Leroux’s classic novel. After becoming an undisputed landmark of London’s West End since its premiere in 1986, and spending almost 40 years on Broadway, this legendary show finally arrived in Barcelona for the first time in an acclaimed Spanish-language version.

## The story: passion, mystery and darkness

The show takes us to 19th-century Paris, deep inside the Paris Opera. Hidden there is a disfigured musical genius who lives in the shadows: the Phantom.

- **The obsession:** The Phantom makes himself known through letters and demands addressed to the theatre’s new managers. He soon becomes deeply fascinated and obsessed with Christine Daaé, a young dancer with a heavenly voice whom he helps become the theatre’s new great soprano.

- **The love triangle:** The situation becomes more complicated when the young Viscount Raoul Chagny, Christine’s childhood love, enters the story. This unleashes the jealousy and rage of the masked figure, triggering a chain of disasters and dramatic twists.

- **Great musical numbers:** The show is known worldwide for iconic and timeless songs such as *The Phantom of the Opera*, the main theme, *The Music of the Night* and *All I Ask of You*.

## Its triumphant run in Barcelona

The production that arrived in Catalonia was a renewed adaptation by the producer Letsgo, in collaboration with Amigos Para Siempre, the company of Antonio Banderas and Lloyd Webber himself.

- **The theatre:** The show was staged at Barcelona’s central and elegant Teatre Tívoli.

- **The dates:** It opened on 23 September 2025 and closed definitively on 1 February 2026, with practically all tickets sold out thanks to its public success.

- **The cast:** The production featured major stars of the musical theatre scene in Spain; actor Daniel Diges played the tormented Phantom, while performer Ana San Martín shone in the role of Christine Daaé.
